I have been told that I can somehow or other combine them using Nero Recode. Reports conflict as to whether this combination is "soft", meaning that the subtitle file becomes visible during the playback only when a toggle switch is thrown, or whether this combination is "hard", meaning that the subtitles then become visible when playing back the Nero-Recode-burned mp4 or DVD, regardless of the player one chooses for viewing. I have Nero I open up Nero Recode.
This post has been reported. Nero Vision goes through the whole process and completes it but when I try to burn it to a DVD, an error message comes up saying there isn't enough room on the DVD.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Nero countless times now, trying both Nero 8 and Nero 9, with Nero's General Cleaner though I have Vista 64 bit and Nero's cleaner doesn't say it will work on it. I've deleted ffdshow, the only codec I know I had, since I noticed it running when Nero Vision began transcoding.
I've been searching the web for answers for the last two days and haven't found a solution. I came upon this forum and thought it would be the best place to ask. I've seen quite a few answers to them same problem elsewhere but they weren't really "answers", they were work-arounds saying to use DVD Shrink to get the files to fit onto a DVD.
At that point, why do I even have Nero? Some answers have suggested that it has to do with the specific. To test this out, I used my husband's laptop with Nero 8 on it to transcode the file. Of course I could continue just using my husband's laptop but what's the point of that? My new computer is the best computer I've ever owned and super fast.
It is converting my MB avi file, just under 2 hours in play length, in twenty minutes and it's only using half my computer's resources. My husband's laptop takes around an hour half the play time of any. Obviously I'd like to use the fastest computer for my transcoding.
